HOW GARRI WILL CHANGE THE FOOD INDUSTRY.

Garri is a common staple in many African homes,the use of garri to make many nutritious meal is a game changer. Garri can be used to make nutritious cereals which are good energy meal for kids. The cassava flakes can be a snack for adults as well. Garri can be used to bake bread, cookies, cakes and other confectionery that hitherto was made with flour. Introduction.

 
 When we talk about Africa, the first thing that comes to our mind is food. From the famous Nigerian jollof rice to the other dishes like Ugandan sukuma wiki, Kenyan ugali or Ghanaian fufu, African food has a special place in the heart of every one. Garri is a popular Nigerian food item that has been consumed for centuries. With the growing demand of the product, there is a chance that garri will take over the world. 

 Body. 

 The history of garri dates back to the pre-colonial era, when it was made by pounding cassava flour in large wooden mortars. It is eaten as a snack, and can be topped with Nigerian suya or West African peanut sauce. It is also eaten as breakfast with bread and jam, or with roasted groundnuts. It is currently produced in Nigeria, Ghana, and a few other West African countries. It is available in both fresh and dried forms. Garri is a staple food in West Africa and is usually served with roasted groundnut or palm kernel oil.

 Benefits. 

 The health benefits of garri are numerous. It is a fibrous food and is rich in carbohydrates and Vitamin B. It is also a gluten-free food and is low in calories. Garri is a source of calcium, which is good for the bones. It also helps reduce blood pressure and is rich in potassium which is good for the heart.

 The health benefits of garri make it a food item that should be part of every meal. It can be eaten with suya or peanut sauce for snack or roasted groundnuts. It can also be used to make bread and other baked confectionery. With the many uses of garri, it is expected to change the food industry. Start eating garri today. However, it is important to note that it is not advisable to eat garri alone on a daily basis. It is best to eat it with other foods or mix it with other ingredients when baking. This will make it a more nutritious food item.

Ministry introduces 'garri jollof' into school feeding programme.

AGRO-VETERINARY BUSINESS .: Ministry introduces 'garri jollof' into school fee...: Mrs Cynthia Maamle Morrison, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has said “gari jollof” has been introduced as a new menu...

 She said the invention of the garri jollof, which food nutritionist has recommended as good would enhance the sustainability of the programme. 


 Mrs Morrison made this known when she addressed caterers from 11 schools at Agona Bobikuma and Agona Kwamang in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region at a training workshop to update their knowledge on the preparation of the new meal.

 The workshop was on “Promotion of Garri into a main Meal.” She asked the caterers to fortify the meal by using locally available ingredients such as vegetables, carrot, cabbage, spring onions, legumes, beans, cow pea and egg, adding; “This combination makes it highly nutritional.”
